    Background:

    • Endometrial hyperplasia is a precancerous condition.
    • Estrone sulfatase (ES) plays a role in local estrogen biosynthesis.
    • ES activity in endometrial pathology requires further investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To quantify estrone sulfatase activity in normal and pathological endometrium.
    • To determine if ES activity correlates with specific endometrial changes.
    • To assess the effect of progestagen treatment on ES activity.

    Main Methods:

    • Measurement of estrone sulfatase activity in endometrial tissue samples.
    • Comparison of ES activity between normal endometrium, mild hyperplasia, focal hyperplasia, moderate hyperplasia, and endometrial neoplasia.
    • Evaluation of ES activity following progestagen treatment.

    • Progestagen treatment reduced both hyperplasia and ES activity, but elevated ES activity persisted in cases with persistent morphologic abnormalities.

    • Elevated estrone sulfatase activity is specific to mild endometrial hyperplasia.
    • ES may play a role in the pathogenesis of mild endometrial hyperplasia.
    • Further research is needed to elucidate the precise role of ES in endometrial disorders.
