    Low viscosity silicone provides superior distal vascular occlusion for organ ablation compared to Ethibloc. This leads to more effective tissue infarction and permanent occlusion in embolization procedures.

    Background:

    • Effective embolization requires uniform, permanent occlusion of distal vasculature for organ ablation and tumor infarction.
    • Solidifying liquids are the preferred agents for achieving such vascular occlusion.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the efficacy of two solidifying liquids, low viscosity silicone and Ethibloc, in achieving peripheral vascular embolization and subsequent tissue infarction.
    • To evaluate the acute and chronic effects of embolization on renal vasculature and tissue viability.

    Main Methods:

    • Embolization of renal arteries in 15 dogs using either low viscosity silicone or Ethibloc.
    • Assessment of the degree of distal vascular distribution and tissue infarction.
    • Evaluation of renal tissue viability after three months.

    • Silicone achieved uniform distal embolization, reaching 50-80% (mean 66%) of glomeruli, resulting in complete cortical infarction in all treated kidneys.
    • Ethibloc caused more proximal occlusion, reaching 10-50% (mean 22%) of glomeruli, with residual viable glomeruli in two of three kidneys after three months.
    • Total renal artery inflow occlusion prevented systemic venous embolization, while partial occlusion allowed it.

    Conclusions:

    • Low viscosity silicone is a more suitable embolization agent than Ethibloc for organ ablation due to its superior distal penetration and uniform occlusion.
    • Complete arterial inflow occlusion during embolization is crucial for preventing systemic venous embolization.
