    Background:

    • Tuberculosis (TB) notifications in North Staffordshire Health District (NSHD) from 1976-1980 were analyzed.
    • The study focused on an area with a predominantly white population and a small immigrant community.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate tuberculosis trends and outcomes in an elderly white population.
    • To identify challenges in diagnosis, treatment, and drug tolerance among older TB patients.

    Main Methods:

    • Prospective study of TB notifications (1976-1980).
    • Retrospective analysis of treatment during 1979-1980.
    • Comparison of NSHD rates with national data (England and Wales).
