    Background:

    • Electron-capture detectors (ECDs) are widely used in chromatography.
    • Surface effects in conventional ECDs can lead to non-ideal solute response.
    • Varian developed an experimental, more inert ECD to mitigate these issues.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate and characterize surface effects in conventional and inert electron-capture detectors.
    • To evaluate the impact of these surface effects on the response of various solutes.
    • To demonstrate the improved performance of the inert ECD.
