In 1977, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae were the most common causes of bloodstream infections in hospitalized children. These bacteria, along with Staphylococcus aureus, accounted for 80% of cases, with specific pathogens more prevalent in younger age groups.
