    Summary

    Furosemide did not prevent or reduce penicillin-induced seizures in cats. This study found that furosemide does not affect penicillin brain concentrations or seizure activity, indicating no therapeutic benefit for this condition.

    Background:

    • Penicillin can induce seizures, a serious neurological side effect.
    • Furosemide is a diuretic that affects electrolyte and fluid balance.
    • The potential interaction between penicillin and furosemide in seizure activity is not well understood.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of furosemide on penicillin-induced seizures in a feline model.
    • To determine if furosemide can mitigate or prevent seizure activity caused by penicillin.
    • To assess the impact of furosemide on penicillin brain concentrations.

    • Twenty cats were administered intravenous penicillin to induce convulsions.
