    Summary

    Ibuprofen can cause eosinophilic meningitis, a rare condition, even in patients without underlying illnesses. Stopping the drug led to symptom resolution and cleared cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) eosinophils.

    Background:

    • Eosinophilic meningitis is a rare inflammatory condition of the central nervous system.

    Observation:

    • A young woman presented with symptoms suggestive of meningitis.
    • Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis revealed a significant presence of eosinophils.
    • The patient had recently initiated ibuprofen therapy for an unspecified condition.

    Findings:

    • The patient had no identifiable underlying medical conditions predisposing her to meningitis.
    • Discontinuation of ibuprofen therapy resulted in a rapid and complete resolution of clinical symptoms.
    • CSF eosinophil counts returned to normal levels following ibuprofen cessation.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights ibuprofen as a potential cause of eosinophilic meningitis, even in the absence of underlying autoimmune disease.
    • Clinicians should consider ibuprofen as a potential causative agent in patients presenting with eosinophilic meningitis.
    • Further research may be warranted to understand the mechanisms of drug-induced eosinophilic meningitis.
