Background:

Female urethral tumors are rare, presenting diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.
This study analyzes treatment outcomes for primary urethral neoplasms in women.

Observation:

Nineteen female patients with primary urethral tumors were treated between 1953 and 1984.
Ten patients had urethral carcinoma (squamous cell, adenocarcinoma, transitional cell), and nine had benign neoplasms.

Findings:

Treatment for urethral carcinoma varied, including distal urethrectomy, urethrectomy, total cystourethrectomy, and transurethral resection (TUR).
Most patients survived post-treatment, with survival ranging from 4 months to 7 years, except for one fatality due to disseminated disease after TUR.
Three patients were lost to follow-up.

Implications:

The rarity of female urethral malignancies necessitates further research into optimal treatment strategies.
Current treatment choices are debated due to poor prognosis, even after surgical intervention.
Extensive surgical approaches, potentially including puboosteotomy, are recommended in recent literature.
