[The tiapride-ethanol interaction in animals].

O Spreux-Varoquaux, P Simon

    Pathologie-Biologie
    |December 1, 1984
    PubMed
    Summary

Tiapride combined with ethanol in animal studies showed a slight increase in motor activity reduction and catalepsy. Ethanol-induced sleep time in mice was not significantly potentiated by tiapride.

    Area of Science:

    • Pharmacology
    • Neuroscience

    Context:

    • Investigating the combined effects of tiapride and ethanol.
    • Utilizing established psychopharmacological models in animal subjects.

    Purpose:

    • To evaluate the synergistic or antagonistic interactions between tiapride and ethanol.
    • To assess the impact on motor activity, catalepsy, and ethanol-induced sleep.

    Summary:

    • Tiapride administration in mice resulted in a slight decrease in motor activity.
    • Tiapride administration in rats led to a slight increase in catalepsy.
    • Co-administration of tiapride did not potentiate ethanol-induced sleeping time in mice.

    Impact:

    • Provides insights into the neuropharmacological profile of tiapride and its interaction with ethanol.
    • Informs potential therapeutic strategies and safety considerations for combined use.
