    Researchers captured red blood cell fragmentation in human microangiopathic disease by briefly restoring blood flow before tissue fixation. This reveals fibrin strands causing red cell damage in pulmonary and renal microcirculation.

    • Fibrin microclots with fragmented red blood cells were found in pulmonary capillaries.
    • Kidney microcirculation showed similar findings plus occlusive red blood cell masses.
