A growth model of self-care for neurologically impaired people

The growth Model of Self-Care provides a method of conceptualizing how nursing knowledge is organized in order to determine nursing interventions. It uses physical and psychological integrity as the basis for evaluating how basic needs are met by the individual. When a person is unable to meet basic needs, nursing intervenes to meet such requirements. Since life is a continual process of change so is the nursing requirement and intervention. Virginia Henderson, said we must get "inside the skin ... be the consciousness [of the patient]." And we must know when the person is able to care for these tasks independently. This Growth Model of Self-Care provides a framework for nursing describing its uniqueness and its practice.
