Clinical cystoid macular edema with intracapsular cataract extraction and posterior chamber lens implantation
Abstract:
A prospective clinical study has been undertaken to determine the rate of clinical cystoid macular edema in a population that has had intracapsular cataract extraction with the implantation of an iris-supported posterior lens. Transient cystoid macular edema developed in 7.2% of the patients in this study, and persistent cystoid macular edema developed in 1.02% of the patients. A chi 2 test shows that there is no significant difference in the rates of transient and persistent cystoid macular edema in this group with intracapsular cataract extraction and a group reported in the literature who had extracapsular cataract extraction and the implantation of a Shearing lens.
