    • Previous studies have explored mutagenic effects, but the adaptive responses of cells to prolonged, escalating doses require further investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the adaptive response of V-79 Chinese hamster cells to repeated, gradually increasing doses of ultraviolet (UV) radiation over multiple generations.
    • To assess the mutability and viability of these cells concerning both UV radiation and N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) after the treatment regimen.

    Main Methods:

    • A population of V-79 Chinese hamster cells was subjected to a treatment protocol involving repeated exposure to incrementally increasing doses of UV radiation.
    • Following each UV dose, cells underwent a growth period of at least ten generations.
    • Post-treatment, cells were assessed for mutability using both UV radiation and MNNG, alongside viability tests for both mutagens.
