    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Surgical Complications

    Background:

    • Cataract extraction is a common surgical procedure.
    • Post-operative complications require careful monitoring and analysis.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To determine the incidence of iris prolapse after cataract extraction.
    • To investigate potential causes of post-operative iris prolapse.

    Main Methods:

    • Review of 6,485 cases of cataract extraction.
    • Analysis of post-operative complications, specifically iris prolapse.

    Main Results:

    • Iris prolapse occurred in 32 cases.
    • The incidence of iris prolapse was 0.49%.

    Conclusions:

    • Iris prolapse is an uncommon complication of modern cataract surgery.
    • Transient pupillary block is a potential cause of post-operative iris prolapse.
