    Background:

    • White spot lesions (WSLs) are early-stage enamel demineralization.
    • Understanding fluoride's effect on WSLs and lesion progression is crucial for preventive dentistry.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of various topical fluoride agents on artificial white spot enamel lesions.
    • To assess the impact of fluoride application on subsequent acid challenge and lesion progression.

    Main Methods:

    • Artificial WSLs were created using an acidified gel technique.
    • Tooth halves were treated with different fluoride solutions (NH4F, Na2SnF6, APF, TiF4) or left untreated.
    • Lesion depth, pore volume, and dark zone characteristics were analyzed using polarized light microscopy after a second acid exposure.

    Main Results:

    • Significant variations were observed in lesion progression among all groups.
    • No statistically significant benefit was found for any of the tested topical fluoride treatments in preventing lesion progression.

    Conclusions:

    • Current topical fluoride applications showed no discernible advantage in managing white spot lesions or inhibiting secondary acid attacks.
    • Further research may be needed to explore novel fluoride delivery systems or adjunctive treatments for WSLs.
