Testicular effects of some xanthine derivatives in the rat
Abstract:
Testicular toxicity as well as effects on body weight gain and food consumption of four xanthine derivatives were studied in the Sprague-Dawley rat. The influence on toxicity by variation of the substituent at positions 1 and 3 on the xanthine skeleton was tested. The compounds were administered orally once a day for 1 month. The 1-methylated xanthines seemed to be more toxic than the non-methylated compounds.
