    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the cellular site of action for the immunosuppressive activity of normal mouse serum (NMS).
    • To identify the mechanisms by which NMS inhibits in vitro immune responses.

    • Assessing the plaque-forming cell (PFC) response of spleen cell suspensions to sheep erythrocytes.
    • Incubating adherent and nonadherent spleen cells with NMS to determine the site of inhibition.
    • Evaluating the effect of adding excess adherent cells or 2-mercaptoethanol on NMS-induced inhibition.

    Main Results:

    • NMS-mediated immunosuppression was localized to adherent cells.
