    Background:

    • Asbestos exposure is a known risk factor for various respiratory diseases.
    • The impact of asbestos on the immune system, particularly T-lymphocyte subsets, requires further investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effects of occupational asbestos exposure on peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets.
    • To correlate immune cell changes with the duration of exposure and radiographic evidence of asbestos-related disease.

    Main Methods:

    • Analysis of peripheral blood lymphocytes (OKT3+, OKT4+, OKT8+, OKT10+, OKIa+) in 40 asbestos-exposed subjects and 40 matched controls.
    • Classification of subjects by exposure duration (short/long) and chest radiograph findings (normal, pleural plaques, interstitial changes).
