    Summary

    Epstein-Barr virus transformation did not alter late-replication patterns in human B-lymphocyte chromosomes. Replication timing remained consistent between normal and transformed cells, and also between B and T lymphocytes.

    Background:

    • Late-replication timing is a characteristic of specific chromosomal regions.
    • Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is known to infect and transform B-lymphocytes, altering cellular processes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the impact of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) transformation on the late-replication patterns of human B-lymphocyte chromosomes.
    • To compare replication timing in normal B-lymphocytes, EBV-transformed B-lymphocytes, and normal T-lymphocytes.

    Main Methods:

    • Analysis of late-replication patterns in human B-lymphocyte chromosomes.
    • Comparison of replication timing before and after EBV transformation.
    • Examination of replication patterns in T-lymphocytes from the same donor.

    Main Results:

    • No statistically significant differences were observed in late-replication patterns between normal and EBV-transformed B-lymphocytes from the same individual.
    • The order of chromosome replication termination remained unchanged following EBV transformation.
    • Replication patterns of normal B-lymphocytes and T-lymphocytes showed no significant differences.

    Conclusions:

    • Epstein-Barr virus transformation does not alter the fundamental late-replication timing of human B-lymphocyte chromosomes.
    • Cell type (B vs. T lymphocyte) does not appear to influence overall late-replication patterns in lymphocytes from the same donor.
