    Summary

    An alternative cardioplegia technique using proximal and distal anastomoses during prolonged cross-clamp improved myocardial protection in coronary bypass surgery. This method led to less heart muscle injury and faster metabolic recovery compared to the traditional approach.

    Background:

    • Cold potassium cardioplegia is standard for coronary bypass operations.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the efficacy of a traditional cardioplegic delivery technique versus an alternative technique in coronary bypass grafting.

    Conclusions:

    • Constructing proximal and distal anastomoses during an extended cross-clamp period allows for more uniform myocardial cooling and immediate reperfusion.
    • This alternative technique significantly reduces myocardial injury (lower CK-MB) and accelerates the recovery of myocardial metabolism.
    • The findings suggest improved myocardial protection with the alternative cardioplegic delivery strategy in coronary bypass grafting.
