    Summary

    Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) may improve cell-mediated immunity by removing inhibitory substances. This study found that E-rosette forming cells (E-RFC) levels normalized in most patients undergoing CAPD.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the impact of CAPD on cell-mediated immunity.
    • To identify factors contributing to immunodeficiency in CAPD patients.

    • Studied E-rosette forming cells (E-RFC) in 16 CAPD patients.
    • Assessed lymphocyte subsets using monoclonal antibodies (OKT11, OKT+4/OKT+8).
    • Incubated normal lymphocytes with uraemic peritoneal fluid fractions.

    • Initially, 10/16 CAPD patients had low E-RFC levels.
