    Summary

    Adding supine views to double-contrast knee arthrography can improve the detection of meniscal tears. This technique enhances diagnostic accuracy for subtle tears not apparent with standard prone positioning alone.

    Background:

    • Knee arthrography is a common diagnostic tool for knee injuries.
    • Debate exists on the effectiveness of single vs. double-contrast arthrography for meniscal tears.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the added benefit of supine positioning in double-contrast knee arthrography for diagnosing meniscal tears.

    Main Methods:

    • 353 double-contrast knee arthrograms were analyzed.
    • Standard prone views were compared with combined prone and supine views.

    Main Results:

    • Prone views alone diagnosed 222 meniscal tears.
    • An additional seven meniscal tears were identified with the inclusion of supine views.
    • Supine views provided single positive contrast detail, aiding in visualization.

    Conclusions:

    • Combining supine and prone views in double-contrast knee arthrography increases the diagnostic yield for meniscal tears.
    • Supine views are particularly valuable for detecting tears not evident on prone imaging.
