    Summary

Ocular colobomas, a common birth defect from optic fissure closure issues, can be accurately diagnosed using computed tomography (CT). High-resolution CT effectively reveals the location and extent of these malformations and associated orbital cysts.

    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Medical Imaging
    • Developmental Biology

    Background:

    • Ocular colobomas are congenital malformations arising from incomplete closure of the fetal optic fissure.
    • Associated orbital cysts can occur with ocular colobomas.

    Observation:

    • This study reports on three cases of ocular colobomas and associated orbital cysts.
    • Computed tomography (CT) was utilized to examine these cases.

    Findings:

    • High-resolution CT can accurately determine the location and extent of ocular colobomas.
    • The study reviews the spectrum of ocular colobomas, associated findings, and differential diagnoses using CT.

    Implications:

    • CT provides a valuable tool for the diagnosis and characterization of ocular colobomas.
    • Understanding the spectrum of findings aids in clinical management and surgical planning.
