    Summary

    A patient underwent cataract surgery and later a secondary cataract discission. Four days post-procedure, she developed endophthalmitis, a serious eye infection.

    Background:

    • A 71-year-old female had cataract extraction with posterior chamber lens insertion in 1980.
    • Postoperative visual acuity was excellent (20/20, J1).

    Observation:

    • Two years later, a secondary cataract developed.
    • A two-needle technique was used for uncomplicated discission of the secondary cataract.
    • Vision improved from 20/100 to 20/40 post-discission.

    Findings:

    • Four days after the discission procedure, the patient developed endophthalmitis.
    • Endophthalmitis is a severe intraocular infection.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights a rare but serious complication following secondary cataract discission.
    • Prompt diagnosis and treatment of endophthalmitis are crucial for preserving vision.
