[The measurement of intracranial pressure (author's transl)]

A new method of measuring pressure extradurally was tested in 19 patients and compared in 14 patients with the intraventricular pressure which was also measured. When functioning satisfactorily the values for the extradural pressure were generally around 3-5 mm Hg lower than those which were recorded within the ventricles. The reason for this appeared to be the inadequate length of the adaptor screw which was used to fix the pressure recorder in the skull, so that a small part of the actual intracranial pressure was absorbed by the dura.
