    Summary

    Asthmatic subjects experienced significant expiratory glottic constriction during induced bronchoconstriction. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) temporarily reversed this glottic narrowing, suggesting a role in asthma pathophysiology.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To quantify changes in glottic cross-sectional area during experimentally induced bronchoconstriction in asymptomatic asthma patients.
    • To assess the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on glottic constriction during asthma.
    • To explore the potential contribution of glottic constriction to asthma symptoms like hyperinflation.

    Main Methods:

    • Fiberoptic bronchoscopy with simultaneous recording of airflow and volume.
