    Summary

    Technetium-99m iminodiacetic acid (IDA) scans are useful for diagnosing cholecystitis. However, abnormal results can sometimes stem from non-hepatobiliary conditions, not gallbladder disease.

    Background:

    • Cholescintigraphy using Tc-99m IDA agents is a standard non-invasive diagnostic tool.
    • It is frequently employed for evaluating suspected cholecystitis.

    Observation:

    • Two patients presenting with abdominal pain underwent cholescintigraphy.
    • Both patients exhibited abnormal cholescintigram findings.

    Findings:

    • The abnormal cholescintigraphy results in these cases were attributed to non-hepatobiliary pathology.
    • This indicates that Tc-99m IDA scans can yield abnormal results unrelated to gallbladder disease.

    Implications:

    • Clinicians should consider non-hepatobiliary causes when interpreting abnormal cholescintigraphy.
    • Further investigation may be necessary to rule out other pathologies causing abnormal "hepatobiliary" imaging findings.
