    Summary

    Hepatitis B virus (HBV) screening in university students revealed a significant decrease in hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) prevalence among female carriers. This suggests an accelerated seroconversion rate from HBeAg to anti-HBe in this demographic.

    Background:

    • * Longitudinal screening of university students for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) has been conducted since 1976.
    • * HBsAg-positive sera were further analyzed for hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) and antibody to HBeAg (anti-HBe).

    Purpose of the Study:

    • * To analyze yearly changes in HBeAg prevalence among HBsAg carrier students.
    • * To investigate potential acceleration of seroconversion from HBeAg to anti-HBe in female carriers.
