    Background:

    • Renal oncocytomas are benign kidney tumors.
    • Distinguishing them from malignant renal tumors can be challenging based on histology alone.

    Observation:

    • A review of 219 radical nephrectomy specimens identified 11 renal oncocytomas (5% incidence).
    • No diagnostic angiographic features were found for renal oncocytomas.
    • Multifocal and bilateral cases of renal oncocytoma were observed.

    Findings:

    • Histologic criteria suggest renal oncocytomas may undergo malignant degeneration.
    • The potential for malignant transformation necessitates similar management to Stage I renal carcinoma.

    Implications:

    • Histologic confirmation provides valuable prognostic information for renal oncocytoma.
    • The lack of reliable radiographic diagnostic features impacts clinical decision-making.
