    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Medical Imaging

    Background:

    • Retinoblastoma is a pediatric eye cancer requiring accurate diagnosis.
    • Echography is a key imaging modality in ophthalmology.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the diagnostic utility of A-scan and B-scan echography in retinoblastoma.
    • To identify additional echographic criteria for retinoblastoma diagnosis.
    • To discuss the differential diagnosis of vitreoretinal diseases using echography.

    Main Methods:

    • Quantitative analysis of echographic data from 60 retinoblastoma eyes.
    • Utilized A-scan (Kretz 7200 MA) and B-scan (Ocuscan 400) echography at varying sensitivity levels.
    • Results documented via polaroid photography.

    Main Results:

    • Echography provided valuable diagnostic information for retinoblastoma.
    • New diagnostic criteria were identified through quantitative analysis.
    • Echographic findings aided in the differential diagnosis of various vitreoretinal conditions.

    Conclusions:

    • A-scan and B-scan echography are effective tools for diagnosing retinoblastoma.
    • Echography assists in differentiating retinoblastoma from other vitreoretinal diseases.
    • Further refinement of echographic techniques can enhance diagnostic accuracy.
