    Retinal detachment surgery can lead to cystoid macular edema (CMO), especially in aphakic or previously detached eyes. Multiple surgeries increase CMO risk, but macular pucker risk factors were not identified.

    Background:

    • Retinal detachment microsurgery is a common procedure.
    • Postoperative complications can affect visual outcomes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To prospectively evaluate the incidence of cystoid macular edema (CMO) after retinal detachment microsurgery.
    • To identify risk factors associated with CMO development post-surgery.

    Main Methods:

    • Prospective evaluation of 82 eyes from 78 patients undergoing retinal detachment microsurgery.
    • Postoperative fluorescein angiography was used to detect CMO.
    • Comparison of CMO incidence based on ocular status (phakic/aphakic) and macular status (detached/attached).

    Main Results:

    • 14.6% of eyes developed angiographic evidence of CMO.
