    Summary

This case study shows conservative treatment for volar transscaphoid perilunar wrist dislocation. It achieved good wrist function and scaphoid bone healing without avascular necrosis.

    Area of Science:

    • Orthopedic Surgery
    • Traumatology
    • Hand and Wrist Surgery

    Background:

    • Volar transscaphoid perilunar dislocation is a severe wrist injury.
    • Understanding the optimal treatment strategy is crucial for patient outcomes.
    • Hyperflexion injuries can compromise the scaphoid's vascular supply.

    Observation:

    • A case of volar transscaphoid perilunar dislocation was treated conservatively.
    • The patient was followed for six months post-treatment.
    • Assessment included radiographic union and functional evaluation.

    Findings:

    • Conservative management led to successful union of the scaphoid bone.
    • No evidence of avascular necrosis was observed in the scaphoid.
    • The patient achieved a good functional result with the non-operative approach.

    Implications:

    • Conservative treatment may be a viable option for volar transscaphoid dislocations.
    • Preservation of the scaphoid's vascular supply supports a non-operative strategy.
    • This approach could lead to favorable functional outcomes in similar wrist injuries.
