    Background:

    • Interferons (IFNs) are crucial signaling proteins in the immune system.
    • Lymphoblastoid interferon (IFN-Ly) is a type of IFN produced by lymphoblastoid cells.
    • Investigating IFN-Ly's therapeutic potential in disseminated malignancies is important.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and immunomodulatory effects of human lymphoblastoid interferon in patients with advanced cancers.
    • To assess the impact of escalating doses of IFN-Ly administered via intravenous (IV) infusion or intramuscular (IM) injection on immune functions.

    Main Methods:

    • Forty patients with refractory disseminated malignancies received daily escalating doses (0.1-50 x 10^6 U) of highly purified IFN-Ly for up to 5 weeks.
