    Summary

    Cicatricial entropion can occur after Cutler-Beard upper eyelid reconstruction. Providing a tarsal substitute during the initial surgery may reduce this complication, improving eyelid stability.

    Background:

    • The Cutler-Beard procedure is a method for upper eyelid reconstruction.
    • Cicatricial entropion is a potential complication following this procedure.

    Observation:

    • Three out of ten eyelids developed cicatricial entropion after the Cutler-Beard procedure.
    • These cases were successfully treated.

    Findings:

    • The incidence of cicatricial entropion may be reduced by incorporating a tarsal substitute during the primary operation.
    • Acceptable tarsal substitutes include nasal septum composite grafts, lower lid tarsoconjunctival flaps, preserved sclera, or autogenous ear cartilage.

    Implications:

    • Implementing tarsal substitutes can enhance the stability of reconstructed eyelids.
    • This approach may decrease the occurrence of cicatricial entropion, improving patient outcomes in upper eyelid reconstruction.
