    Summary

    Autologous vein grafts showed comparable results to nerve grafts for small peripheral nerve defects. However, nerve grafts were superior for bridging larger nerve gaps in rabbit models.

    Background:

    • Peripheral nerve injuries often require surgical repair to restore function.
    • Autologous nerve grafting is a gold standard but limited by donor site morbidity.
    • Vein grafts are an alternative biomaterial for nerve defect bridging.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the efficacy of autologous vein grafts versus autologous nerve grafts in bridging peripheral nerve defects.
    • To evaluate the functional recovery in rabbit models using these two grafting techniques.
