Hyperekplexia relieved by surgical decompression of the cervicomedullary region

Hyperekplexia in an 8-year-old boy with myelodysplasia was greatly improved by surgical decompression of the cervicomedullary region. The possible implications for treatment and for understanding the cause of this syndrome are discussed.
