    Summary

    Prompt treatment of obstructive hydrocephalus from large cerebellar infarction can improve patient outcomes. Early intervention with external ventricular drainage may prevent the need for posterior fossa decompression surgery.

    Background:

    • Large cerebellar infarctions can lead to obstructive hydrocephalus, a serious complication.
    • Hydrocephalus in cerebellar infarction requires prompt management to prevent neurological deterioration.

    Observation:

    • Eight of eleven patients with large cerebellar infarctions presented with hydrocephalus on CT scans.
    • Patients were managed with either external ventricular drainage or conservative measures.

    Findings:

    • One patient died from progressive brainstem infarction.
    • The remaining patients experienced favorable outcomes.

    Implications:

    • Prompt treatment of acute obstructive hydrocephalus in cerebellar infarction is crucial.
