    Summary

    Ghost cell glaucoma can occur after cataract surgery with lens implantation. Vitrectomy effectively removed ghost cells, improving vision and controlling intraocular pressure in patients.

    Background:

    • Cataract surgery with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation can lead to intraocular hemorrhage.
    • Ghost cell glaucoma is a potential complication following such procedures, especially with recurrent bleeding.
    • Intraocular lenses may contribute to bleeding in susceptible individuals.

    Observation:

    • Six cases of ghost cell glaucoma post-cataract surgery and IOL implantation were analyzed.
    • Patients presented with uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP).
    • Vitrectomy was indicated to manage the condition.

    Findings:

    • Vitrectomy successfully removed the reservoir of ghost cells in all patients.
    • Postoperative visual acuity improved to 20/40 or better in all cases.
    • Intraocular pressure was effectively controlled with medication post-vitrectomy.

    Implications:

    • Vitrectomy is an effective treatment for ghost cell glaucoma following cataract surgery.
    • Early intervention can restore visual function and manage IOP.
    • Understanding the role of IOLs in recurrent bleeding is crucial for predisposed patients.
