    Summary

Internal pressure in simple bone cysts may stem from venous obstruction. A minimally invasive multiple drill-hole treatment effectively healed these cysts in young patients within five months.

    Area of Science:

    • Orthopedics
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Surgical Innovation

    Context:

    • Simple bone cysts present unique internal pressure dynamics.
    • Understanding the etiology of simple bone cysts is crucial for effective treatment.
    • Current treatment options for simple bone cysts vary in invasiveness and efficacy.

    Purpose:

    • To investigate the internal pressure and PO2 levels within simple bone cysts.
    • To evaluate the efficacy of the multiple drill-hole method for treating simple bone cysts.
    • To explore the potential role of venous obstruction in the etiology of simple bone cysts.

    Summary:

    • Internal pressure in simple bone cysts was found to be higher than normal bone marrow pressure.
    • Internal PO2 levels within the cysts were significantly lower than systemic arterial and venous PO2.
    • The multiple drill-hole technique resulted in complete bony infill and excellent clinical outcomes in all treated cases within five months.

    Impact:

    • The multiple drill-hole method offers a minimally invasive and highly effective treatment for simple bone cysts in pediatric patients.
    • This study suggests venous obstruction as a potential contributing factor to simple bone cyst development.
    • Findings support the multiple drill-hole technique as a primary treatment option for simple bone cysts, particularly in younger individuals.
