Dark Triad and Person Perception

274
Person perception is influenced by both external behaviors and the observer’s internal characteristics, including personality traits. Individuals with dark personality traits, comprising psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism — collectively known as the dark triad – exhibit manipulative and exploitative tendencies in social contexts. These traits affect how they perceive others and how they are perceived. The Role of Dark Personality Traits in Person PerceptionBlack et...

Dark Blood Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Visualizing Inflamed Intracranial Arteries

153
Start with a human patient with cerebral vasculitis, which causes inflammation and increased permeability of blood vessels in the brain.Place the patient's head inside the radiofrequency, or RF, coil of a magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, machine.Initiate magnetic resonance angiography, or MRA, which uses RF pulses to image blood flow.Protons in flowing blood generate strong signals, making blood vessels appear bright, while weak signals from stationary tissues result in a dark...

Electroretinogram Recording for Infants and Children under Anesthesia to Achieve Optimal Dark Adaptation and International Standards

6.5K
Adhering to international standards and maintaining retinal dark adaptation are critical to acquire valid full-field electroretinogram responses in the diagnosis and management of inherited retinal diseases. A practical protocol using a portable darkroom is provided to obtain full-field electroretinogram for infants and children under sedation or general anesthesia in the operating room...

Dark vergence and dark accommodation in human infants.

    Vision Research

    PubMed
    Summary

Infant visual development shows vergence and accommodation are uncoupled in the dark. This means eye movements for focusing and alignment do not influence each other without visual cues.

    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Developmental Neuroscience
    • Pediatric Vision

    Background:

    • Vergence and accommodation are crucial for binocular vision.
    • Understanding their interplay in infants is key to diagnosing visual development issues.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between vergence angle and accommodative state in infants.
    • To determine if vergence and accommodation are coupled in early visual development.

    Main Methods:

    • Photographic assessment of vergence angle and accommodative state.
    • Testing conducted on 3-, 6-, and 12-month-old infants in dark conditions.

    Main Results:

    • Vergence and accommodation fluctuations were largely uncorrelated in infants tested in the dark.

  • The mean slope of vergence-accommodation functions in the dark was 0.04.
  • Conclusions:

    • Infants demonstrate an uncoupling of vergence and accommodation when deprived of patterned visual input.
    • This suggests independent development or regulation of these visual functions in early infancy.
