    Summary

    Eyeglass wearers, particularly those using them full-time or part-time, exhibit distinct lateral eye movement patterns in non-face-to-face interactions. Myopia is also linked to a greater tendency for leftward eye movements.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the influence of refractive error correction (glasses, contact lenses) on lateral eye movement patterns.
    • To explore the relationship between visual correction status and preferred eye movement direction in different interaction contexts.

    • Forty right-handed male college students were divided into four groups: normal vision, full-time glasses wearers, part-time glasses wearers, and contact lens wearers.
    • Eye movement direction was assessed from videotapes during face-to-face and non-face-to-face questioning scenarios.
    • Statistical analyses were performed to identify significant differences between groups and correlations with physical characteristics.

    • The findings suggest that the type and duration of myopia correction can impact non-verbal cognitive cues.
    • Myopia itself may be associated with a predisposition for left-looker behavior.
