The unintelligible child: a problem for the health care team

As a result of the rapid growth of applied psycholinguistic research it is necessary to explode some of the myths of normal and abnormal speech development. The following paper is an attempt to clarify the nature of phonological development and disability and to draw general implications for assessment and management of the unintelligible child.
