    Gas absorption can cause significant middle ear underpressure. Middle ear inflation techniques offer only temporary relief for severe underpressure, suggesting limited utility in these cases.

    Background:

    • Gas absorption in the middle ear can lead to intratympanic underpressure.
    • This phenomenon has been observed in animal models and children with serous otitis media.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effects of middle ear inflation techniques on established intratympanic underpressures in children.
    • To determine the efficacy of Valsalva inflation and politzerization in resolving significant negative middle ear pressures.

    • Observational study involving children with serous otitis and documented intratympanic underpressures.
