Testicular lymphoma. A retrospective review of 17 cases

Seventeen cases of testicular lymphoma were reviewed retrospectively in order to study the relationship between histological appearances, clinical presentation and prognosis. Thirteen of the patients were adults, all over 60 years of age, and 4 were children. Twelve patients were White, 2 Black and 3 of mixed racial descent. All cases were diffuse non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, 9 being intermediate and 8 high grade according to the 'working formulation' of the National Cancer Institute of America. Histological type, mitotic count, histiophagocytosis, vascularity, extent of necrosis and degree of fibrosis did not influence survival. The stage of the disease was the most important prognostic factor, patients in stage IE having an excellent prognosis. Extension to extratesticular sites was associated with a poor prognosis regardless of the stage of the disease.
