    Background:

    • Acetabular dysplasia is a condition where the hip socket doesn't fully cover the ball of the femur.
    • Early intervention can prevent or delay degenerative arthritis of the hip.

    Observation:

    • A circumacetabular osteotomy (CAO) procedure was developed to correct acetabular dysplasia.
    • The CAO involves rotating the acetabulum through combined anterior and posterior surgical approaches.

    Findings:

    • The study analyzed 45 hips in 41 patients with acetabular dysplasia, some with early degenerative arthritis.
    • Post-surgery, the center-edge angle improved significantly, approaching normal values.
    • The majority of patients experienced resolution of limp and pain, with restored hip range of motion.

    Implications:

    • Circumacetabular osteotomy is a viable surgical option for treating acetabular dysplasia in adolescents and adults.
    • This procedure can improve functional outcomes and potentially slow the progression of hip osteoarthritis.
