    Summary

    Auditory brainstem responses (ABR) can now evaluate middle and low frequencies using tone pips. This study demonstrates ABRs to 0.5- and 1-kHz stimuli, establishing new diagnostic thresholds.

    Background:

    • Auditory brainstem responses (ABR) typically assess high-frequency hearing thresholds.
    • Current ABR methods are limited in evaluating middle and low-frequency hearing (0.5-1 kHz).

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the feasibility of obtaining ABRs for middle and low frequencies using tone pip stimuli.
    • To compare ABR parameters elicited by tone pips versus clicks.

    • ABRs were recorded from 19 normally hearing adults using 0.5-kHz and 1-kHz tone pips and clicks.
    • Stimuli had specific durations and rise-decay times, with a passband filter of 20-5000 Hz.
