Two million older Americans are known diabetics and it is estimated another 2 million remain undiagnosed. Still another group may be overdiagnosed and are merely showing signs of age. This first installment of an ongoing series tells how new classification criteria and incidence data can help physicians address this classic diagnostic challenge.
