Acceptance testing of medical electrical equipment
Journal of Medical Engineering & Technology
|January 1, 1984
Abstract:
A procedure for acceptance testing medical electrical equipment delivered to one UK Health Authority was established as part of a wider equipment management policy. The findings of the acceptance testing and related vetting of safety questionnaires during a complete year are reported. The place of such testing is considered in relation to the equipment policy of the Authority and the equipment user together with the relationship with the manufacturer. It is concluded that a full equipment management system is essential to control costs, and reduce hazards to patients and staff. Such an approach is necessary if the National Health Service is to obtain full benefit of the technological advances of the time.
