    Summary

Histological sections from bone marrow particles offer identical quality to bone marrow biopsies. This simple methacrylate embedding method can often eliminate the need for additional marrow biopsies, improving diagnostic accuracy.

    Area of Science:

    • Hematology
    • Histopathology
    • Biomedical Engineering

    Background:

    • Accurate evaluation of cellular bone marrow components is crucial for diagnosis.
    • Traditional methods often involve both bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.
    • Histological assessment provides detailed cellular information.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To present a simplified method for preparing histological sections from aspirated bone marrow particles.
    • To compare the quality of methacrylate-embedded particle histology with traditional bone marrow biopsies.
    • To determine if particle histology can obviate the need for separate bone marrow biopsies.

    Main Methods:

    • Bone marrow particles were collected following aspiration.
    • Particles were embedded in methacrylate.
    • Histological sections were prepared from embedded particles.
    • Sections were compared to those from conventional bone marrow biopsies.

    Main Results:

    • The methacrylate embedding method for bone marrow particles is straightforward.
    • Histological sections from particle preparations were of identical quality to those from bone marrow biopsies.
    • This technique allows for precise evaluation and classification of marrow cellular components.

    Conclusions:

    • Methacrylate-embedded particle histology provides diagnostic quality comparable to bone marrow biopsies.
    • This method can frequently eliminate the necessity for performing additional bone marrow biopsies.
    • Routine preparation of both cytological and histological slides from aspirated bone marrow enhances diagnostic assessment.
