Symptomatic extrinsic compression of the cervical carotid artery

A 41-year-old man had external compression of the internal carotid artery. He had hemispheric symptoms brought on by flexion of the neck and turning his head to the left. The compression was diagnosed by positional angiography. Treatment consisted of excision of the posterior belly of the digastric muscle and associated fascial bands.
